New Jersey’s new Congressional map has been released and, while Chatham remains in the 11th district, the map leaves a lot to be desired.
❎ More towns divided
❎ More counties split
❎ Fewer competitive districts (arguably just 1 of 12!)
❎ More voters moved as compared to the alternative map
❎ Independent voters disenfranchised
❎ Out of sync with New Jersey's political lean
❎ Map released only after it was adopted
This is gerrymandering by another name, a step backwards for competitive federal elections. A very poor job by Justice Wallace, the bipartisan Redistricting Commission’s chair, who's stated reason for selecting the map was, "it was their turn".
Thank you Councilman Mike Inganamort.
